As I soared through the skies, nestled in my comfortable seat, I couldn’t help but notice the parallels between my in-flight experience and our daily lives. The airline had thoughtfully provided me with a travel kit, complete with essentials to ensure my comfort and convenience. But it was the subtle humor in this gesture that struck me – aren’t we often guilty of settling into our own personal “climate-controlled comfort zones,” waiting for our ultimate destination, while neglecting the journey itself?
The realization hit me: God is not just a destination, but a presence that longs to be experienced in every moment. He desires to stir within us a holy hunger, a deep longing for more of His glory. This hunger is not about being dissatisfied with our current circumstances, but about being enthusiastically grateful for what we have, while eagerly seeking more of Him.
The Bible promises that when we seek God with all our hearts, we will find Him (Deuteronomy 4:29, Jeremiah 29:13). He will hear our prayers, forgive us, and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). He will show us His gracious favor, provide us with every good thing, and give us life (Ezra 8:22, Psalm 34:10, Amos 5:4). He will guide us in understanding justice and provide us with all the essentials of life (Proverbs 28:5, Matthew 6:33). And when we pray in faith, He will answer us (Hebrews 11:6).
God delights in our unique expressions of worship and communication. He is pleased when we fellowship with Him through prayer and His Word, and when we delight in His presence and greatness. As the Psalmist so eloquently put it, “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you…” (Psalm 63).
Let us not settle for mere comfort and convenience, but instead, let our hearts cry out for more of God’s love and presence. Let us press on towards the prize of enjoying His presence forever, starting now.
