The Temple Within
Imagine a sacred space where God’s presence dwells, a place of reverence and awe. For the ancient Israelites, this was the Temple built by Solomon, where the Holy of Holies housed the divine presence behind a thick curtain. Only the high priest was privileged to enter, yet the people believed God was among them, guiding and directing their lives.
A Glimpse of Hope
When the Temple was destroyed, the people of Israel were left with a sense of loss and despair. It was during this dark period of exile in Babylon that Ezekiel wrote a prophecy of God’s future return to a newly restored temple, bringing hope to the exiled people.
The Shift in Perspective
Fast forward to today, and we find ourselves in a new era of spiritual understanding. As believers, we are no longer bound by the physical confines of a temple. Instead, our bodies have become the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We carry God’s presence with us wherever we go, a weighty responsibility that can be both exhilarating and intimidating.
Reflections of God’s Love
As I reflect on my own life, I often wonder: Do people see a glimpse of God’s love when they look at me? Honestly, most of the time, I feel far from being a radiant reflection of God’s glory. I struggle with feelings of inadequacy, stumbling, and humanity. Yet, I believe that God dwells within me, even when I can’t sense His presence.
The Power of Surrender
The more I choose to empty myself of my own desires, fears, and doubts, the more God can fill me with His loving nature. It’s a delicate balance between surrender and self-awareness. As I whisk open the curtain of my heart, I invite God to fill me with His Spirit, that others may witness His presence in my life.
A Prayer of Surrender
Father God, help me to empty myself of all that does not honor You. Remove the hurt, anger, jealousies, and negative thoughts that clutter my heart. Fill me instead with Your Spirit, that I may reflect Your love and character to those around me. Through Your Son, my Savior, I pray this. Amen.
