When the Unimaginable Happens: Encountering a God Beyond Our Wildest Dreams
Imagine standing face-to-face with a power that defies human comprehension. A presence that shatters our limited understanding and leaves us awestruck. This is what happens when we encounter God, the infinitely beyond, the unmanageable, and the extraordinary.
As we delve into the stories of biblical characters who met God, we discover a common thread – their lives were forever changed by the experience. When God shows up, He reveals the true state of our hearts, exposing any hidden sin or unbelief. Like Adam and Eve, we may try to hide behind our own righteousness, but God’s presence brings us to our knees.
Worship is the catalyst for surrender. Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac on the altar was a testament to his fear of the Lord. And in that moment, God revealed Himself as Jehovah-Jireh, the provider of the Lamb. When we worship, we surrender completely, and God gives us the courage to face overwhelming odds.
Gideon’s story teaches us that worship gives us the confidence to trust God’s promises, even when the odds seem insurmountable. With pitchers, torches, and trumpets, God delivered the Midianite camp into their hands. When we encounter God in our darkest moments, He opens the Scriptures to our hearts, bringing comfort and understanding in His Word.
The disciples’ encounter with Jesus on the road to Emmaus is a powerful reminder that God meets us in our sorrow and broken dreams. He explains the Scriptures in a way that brings hope and understanding. When we bring our hopelessness to Him, He reveals truths that we would otherwise miss.
Ultimately, encountering God in worship assures us of His presence, gives us authority, and commissions us to make disciples who will repeat the process. Jesus’ words to His disciples after the resurrection still resonate today: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations… And surely I am with you always.”
The stories of Abraham, Moses, Jacob, Joshua, Gideon, Jehoshaphat, and David remind us that God wants to meet us face-to-face in our desperation. He wants to show us more of Himself, His will, and His ways in our present circumstances. As we look for Him in all aspects of our lives, we will discover that He is always there, waiting to reveal Himself in ways beyond our wildest dreams.
