The Unrelenting Pursuit of God
For many, Jesus is merely a historical figure, a revered name from the past. But for those who have truly encountered Him, Christ is more than just a Savior – He is their very essence, their reason for being (Colossians 3:4). When Jesus becomes your lifeblood, you cannot imagine existing without Him.
The Desperation of a Drowning Soul
A poignant story illustrates this all-consuming passion. A young seeker of truth approached a wise old sage, eager to learn the secrets of the divine. The master led him to a lake, where he unexpectedly pushed the young man underwater, holding him down until he struggled to break free. As the young man resurfaced, gasping for air, he demanded to know the purpose of this ordeal. The sage looked him in the eye and said, “When you crave God as intensely as you crave air, you will find Him.”
The Psalmist’s Cry
This intense longing is reminiscent of the psalmist’s heartfelt cry: “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for Thee, O God” (Psalm 42:1). There comes a point in our pursuit of God where our desire transcends casual interest, becoming a matter of survival. We need Christ like a parched deer needs water, like a drowning man needs air.
The Fulfillment of Our Deepest Passion
It is in this place of desperation, where we feel we cannot exist without experiencing the reality of God, that our deepest passion is finally fulfilled. Our hearts, once lukewarm, now burn with an unrelenting passion for Him. We are no longer satisfied with mere intellectual knowledge; we crave the living, breathing presence of God in our lives.
