The Power of Unconditional Love
As we open our hearts to others, we often expect reciprocity, but what happens when we’re met with indifference or even rejection? In 2 Corinthians 6:11, Paul writes, “We have spoken freely to you,…our heart is wide open. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. In return (I speak as to children) widen your hearts also.” This verse serves as a poignant reminder that our love and affection towards others shouldn’t be contingent upon their response.
A Personal Encounter with God’s Love
I vividly recall a moment when God’s response to my query was swift and profound. It was during a challenging period in my new job, where I struggled to connect with my colleagues. Despite my enthusiasm and eagerness to serve, I was met with aloofness, leaving me feeling wounded. One sunny morning, as I poured over my Bible, I asked God, “Why did you place me here?” His response was clear and unexpected: “I put you there to love.” This revelation shook me to my core.
Love Without Expectation
It’s essential to recognize that our hearts may be open and our actions loving, but the other person’s heart may not be receptive. However, God has the power to transform hearts, and we must trust in His sovereignty. As I eventually moved on from that job, a colleague paid me a remarkable tribute: “You taught us how to love.” It was a testament to the transformative power of God’s love, even in the most ordinary of circumstances.
The Reality of God’s Love
Lord Jesus, we thank You for Your active love in us, even when we’re unaware of it. Through the reality of Your resurrected life in us, You enable us to love unconditionally, just as You do. We are forever grateful for Your presence in our lives, guiding us through the unremarkable days and extraordinary moments alike. Amen.
