Breaking Free from Distortion
When my mom moved into her new condo, she was greeted by an unexpected obstacle: a mysterious film covering the windows. The light shone through, but everything outside appeared warped and unclear. It took a determined grandson, equipped with a razor blade, window cleaning gear, and a YouTube tutorial, four hours to painstakingly scrape away the obstruction. But unlike the physical veil on my mother’s windows, there’s a far more profound barrier that distorts our perception: our own sinful nature.
The Blinding Power of Sin
Our rebellious hearts and willful disobedience create a veil that obscures our judgment, preventing us from seeing things as they truly are. As Paul so eloquently puts it, “their minds were hardened” (2 Corinthians 3:14). The truth remains elusive, hidden behind a veil of sin that we cannot lift on our own.
The Liberating Power of Christ
Yet, there is hope. Paul reveals that the veil can only be lifted through Christ. “For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away” (2 Corinthians 3:14). It is only when we turn to Christ that we can grasp our profound need for redemption and behold the glory of his gift.
Transformation Through Christ
As we fix our gaze on Jesus, surrendering our will to his, we begin to reflect his glory. The more we focus on him, the more we become like him. This transformation is nothing short of glorious! Those around us can’t help but see Jesus shining through us. We live for Jesus, empowered by Jesus, to showcase Jesus to the world.
A Heartfelt Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you for dying for my sins and rising again in power. Turn my heart and mind toward you. Remove the veil, that I may see clearly. Transform me into your likeness. May your name be glorified. Amen.
