Finding Hope in the Darkest Moments: A Prayer for Healing and Strength
In times of uncertainty, anxiety, and discomfort, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. But as we navigate the complexities of life, we can find solace in the power of prayer. As we cry out to God, we remember that He is the one who sustains all things, knows all things, and rules over all things.
A Cry for Help
O God, hold fast to us. Preserve us by your power. Sustain our faith. Don’t let us waver in unbelief. Shine your irresistible light of glory into our hearts, and grant us to hope fully in your grace. Don’t let the pain be more than we can bear. Guard us from murmuring or complaining. Give us your peace that passes all human understanding. Keep our minds focused on your precious promises. And make us know your sweet presence at our bedside.
Healing and Restoration
As we face illness and adversity, we ask for your healing touch. You are the Great Physician, capable of restoring us to full health and vitality. Nothing is too hard for you. If it’s your will to take us home to be with you, we welcome it with joyful hope. But if there’s still work to be done, we ask to be raised up for your great glory.
Gratitude and Trust
We thank you for the advances in medical science that have been a mercy to this undeserving world. We trust in your wisdom and skill, which guides doctors and nurses as they care for us. Our trust is not in medicine or man, but in you alone. We look away from self-reliance and fix our eyes on Christ, our Savior and Redeemer.
Redemption and Peace
Thank you for sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Thank you that “for our sake [you] made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Cor. 5:21). O the wonder and privilege and peace of hearing you say to us, in Christ, “No condemnation. I do not appoint you for wrath” (see Rom. 8:1; 1 Thess. 5:9). Into your hands we commit our bodies and our souls. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
