**When Darkness Falls, Faith Illuminates**
I’ll never forget the eerie feeling that crept over me on a recent stormy night. As I ascended the stairs to my apartment, the usual warm glow of the outdoor sconce was nowhere to be found. The darkness seemed to swallow me whole, making every step feel like a leap of faith. My heart raced as I fumbled for my keys, my mind racing with worst-case scenarios.
In that moment, I realized how much I’d grown accustomed to the comforting light that normally greeted me. It wasn’t just about visibility; it was about feeling safe and secure. But as I stood there, struggling to find my door’s keyhole, I was forced to confront a deeper truth.
As a believer, had I become too reliant on the tangible manifestations of God’s presence in my life? Was I only comforted by His light when it was visible, when the road ahead seemed clear? Or could I trust that He was always with me, even in the darkest of times?
The Bible reminds us that we will face dark periods in life, but it’s in those moments that our faith is refined like gold in the fire. It’s easy to panic, to try to hurry through the uncertainty, but what if we chose instead to wait patiently, to let our “faith-eyes” adjust to the darkness?
The Psalmist’s words echoed in my mind: “You are the lamp unto my feet and the light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105) In that moment, I knew that Christ was my constant companion, my automatic sensor illuminating the path ahead, even when I couldn’t see it.
May we learn to stand firm in our faith, even when the darkness closes in. May we recall that Christ has already conquered the forces of darkness, and that His light will always guide us, even when our eyes can’t see.
