Rediscovering the Power of Community
As I reflect on Hebrews 10:24-25, I’m reminded of the importance of fellowship and community in our spiritual journeys. “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” These words resonated deeply with me, especially after a period of spiritual isolation.
A Season of Solitude
For eight months, I had been absent from church, relying on personal prayer, podcasts, and individual Bible study to sustain my faith. I thought I was doing just fine, but God had other plans. Little did I know, my soul was craving something more – fellowship with like-minded believers.
A Chance Encounter
While sailing in Grenada, I stumbled upon a God-believing church in town. The timing was perfect, as Sunday was just around the corner. I attended the ladies’ morning Bible study, and as I shared my heart with strangers, tears of joy began to flow. I felt a deep sense of connection with my spiritual family, and my soul was nourished.
A Second Blessing
Unforeseen circumstances led us to stay in the same community the following Sunday, allowing me to attend the church again. Coincidence? I think not. God’s love and provision were evident, and I was grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with His people.
Why Fellowship Matters
So, why does God command us to meet regularly and prioritize fellowship? It’s because, without it, we risk allowing other things and people to take His place in our lives. In my case, God had slipped to a secondary priority, and I didn’t even realize it. But God graciously revealed my oversight and gently guided me back on track.
Gratitude and Praise
I’m thankful for God’s perfect gifts, including the gift of community. I’m grateful for like-minded believers who encourage and support me on my faith journey. And I’m thankful that, regardless of my geographical location, God provides a means for me to study and learn about Him. Jesus, I love you, and I praise you for your love and provision in my life. Amen.
