Seeking the Kingdom: Prioritizing God Above All

Prioritizing the Kingdom

As we strive to live a life that honors God, we’re often faced with tough decisions that challenge our priorities. Matthew 6:33 reminds us, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” But what does this really mean?

A Life of Generosity

Consider the story of a young entrepreneur who had built a vast fortune through hard work and wise investments. He was known for his generosity, providing excellent health benefits to his employees and donating lavishly to charitable causes. His financial situation was transparent, and his good deeds were frequently publicized. Yet, despite his outward success, he felt a nagging sense of uncertainty about his eternal destiny.

A Surprising Requirement

One day, he approached a religious leader, seeking assurance of his place in heaven. The response he received was both shocking and unsettling. “Sell everything you own and give it to the poor,” he was told. “Your wealth will be stored in heaven, and then come follow me.” This demand seemed absurd, threatening to upend his business and leave his family without resources.

Commitment vs. Foolishness

Jesus doesn’t ask us to be foolish, but he does require total commitment. Sometimes, this dedication appears foolish to others, as it means prioritizing the Kingdom of God above all else. So, what would it cost you to follow Jesus? Are you willing to pay the price?

A Leap of Faith

Lord, it’s never easy to take that final step of faith, whether it’s trusting you as our personal Savior or surrendering every aspect of our lives to you. But what incredible joy and peace we experience when we learn to trust you completely! Help us grow in loving and trusting you, even when it feels like a leap of faith.

Reflection

As we reflect on our own lives, let’s ask ourselves: What are we holding onto too tightly? What would it take for us to release our grip and prioritize the Kingdom of God? The answer may be uncomfortable, but it’s only by surrendering our lives to Jesus that we can truly experience the joy and peace that come from following him.
