God Hears: Comfort in Uncertainty

The God Who Hears Our Cries

In the midst of life’s uncertainties, it’s comforting to know that there is a God who hears our cries and comforts our hearts. As Psalm 10:17 reminds us, “Lord, You know the hopes of humble people. Surely, You will hear their cries and comfort their hearts by helping them.”

A Miraculous Evening

Nancy DeMoss, along with her husband Art, had an extraordinary experience that exemplifies this truth. They had invited over 1,300 guests to their home for a lawn dinner, where the renowned Christian leader Charles Colson would present the gospel. However, the weather forecast predicted a downpour for that evening. Undeterred, they prayed for the rain to stop, and miraculously, it did – except for a few drops of moisture. The gospel was shared, hundreds responded to the invitation to receive Christ, and as the guests departed, the rain returned. The God of nature had indeed heard their prayers and responded.

When God Chooses to Send Rain

On another occasion, during EXPLO ’74 in Seoul, Korea, a similar scenario unfolded. Over a million people gathered each evening at the famous Yoida Plaza, and we prayed for God to hold back the rain. Instead, He chose to bless us in other ways, and the rain came. But in His sovereignty, God overruled, and the people were drawn closer to each other and to the Lord. Hundreds of thousands claimed to have received Christ during that week, with over a million indicating they had received Christ in just one evening. We rejoiced and thanked God for the rain, recognizing that He knows the hopes of humble people and will hear our cries and comfort our hearts.

Trusting in God’s Sovereignty

As we reflect on these experiences, we are reminded that God is worthy of our trust. He controls not only the affairs of men and nations but also the laws of nature. In His infinite wisdom, He sometimes withholds the rain, and other times He sends it, bringing with it an outpouring of His blessings. Today, let us submit our requests to Him, willing to abide by His decisions, knowing that He makes no mistakes. Let us rejoice and give thanks to Him, regardless of the outcome.
