Finding Peace in the Eye of the Storm
When Fears and Doubts Arise
We’ve all been there – in the midst of a raging storm, feeling helpless and questioning God’s presence. Psalm 107:29-31 reminds us of His power to calm the turbulent waters and guide us to safe harbor. But what about when we’re facing our own personal storms?
A Lesson from Jesus’ Disciples
In Luke 8:22-25, we find a powerful story of Jesus calming a fierce storm on the lake. As the disciples frantically woke Him, crying out in fear, Jesus simply rebuked the wind and said, “Quiet down!” Suddenly, the storm subsided, and a great calm ensued. But what was behind their fear? They had forgotten the promise Jesus made to reach the other side of the lake.
The Problem of Focus
Don’t we often do the same? We focus on the problem instead of the promise. We believe God is with us, but when He seems silent, we doubt His care. We forget that He is always working, even when we can’t see it.
The Power of God’s Word
What promises in God’s Word speak directly to your current need? Repeat them out loud, and hold onto them. You will survive this storm, and emerge stronger on the other side. The disciples benefited from their stormy experience, discovering Jesus’ power in a new way. Similarly, our own storms allow us to know God’s character more deeply.
God’s Timely Intervention
God is never late to help us. He cares about every detail of our lives, including the present storm. We can trust that He will meet us in our need, just as He did for the disciples.
A Prayer of Trust
Father, I thank you that you care about every detail of my life, including this present storm. I trust that you will guide me through it, and bring me out stronger on the other side.
Starting a New Journey
If you’ve never had a personal relationship with Christ, now is the perfect time to start. Commit and submit your life to Him, and experience His peace in the midst of the storm. Begin with a simple prayer:
Lord, thank You for dying so we can be set free from all guilt and sin. Your blood has erased all of our sin. Thank You so much! Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to you and ask you to come in as my Savior and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be. Amen.
