The Unavoidable Realities of Following Jesus
As believers, we often harbor a misconception that surrendering our lives to Christ will guarantee a trouble-free existence. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Jesus Himself faced numerous challenges, and we, as His followers, will inevitably encounter similar obstacles.
The Temptation Trap
One of the most significant hurdles we’ll face is temptation. Just like Jesus, who was tempted in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11), we’ll be confronted with daily temptations that can lead us astray. But here’s the good news: Jesus understands our struggles, and His Word serves as our shield and protector. By clinging to His teachings, we’ll emerge stronger and more resilient.
Deception and Gossip
Another reality we’ll face is people trying to deceive and manipulate us. Jesus encountered this very issue (Matthew 22:15, Luke 20:20-26, Matthew 15:1-9), and so will we. The key is to differentiate between hating the sin and loving the sinner. We must learn to pray for those who seek to harm us, rather than harboring resentment towards them.
Spiritual Warfare
As followers of Christ, we’ll also face spiritual attacks from forces that seek to destroy us (Ephesians 6:12). But take heart: Jesus has already triumphed over these forces, and we can tap into His power by donning the armor of God and praying fervently (Ephesians 6:18a). Let’s seek refuge in His temple and pray for those around us who may be manipulated by evil forces.
The World’s Rejection
Perhaps the most daunting challenge we’ll face is the world’s rejection and attempts to silence us (John 15:18-20). As Jesus so poignantly put it, “If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” This is where many believers falter, but we must remember that our true home is in eternity with God. Let’s support one another in our faith journey and show the world the same grace that God has shown us.
The Bigger Picture
In the midst of these challenges, it’s essential to maintain a heavenly perspective. Our walk with Christ may not be easy, but it’s worth it. As we navigate the trials and tribulations of this life, let’s keep our eyes fixed on the eternal promise of spending forever with our Lord and Savior.
