The Power of Selfless Love
As we reflect on the teachings of Jesus, one thing becomes clear: He embodied the essence of kindness, compassion, and forgiveness. Even those who don’t consider themselves followers of Jesus acknowledge His extraordinary love and selflessness. The question is, what does it mean to truly live like Jesus?
A Life of Sacrificial Love
The Bible reminds us that God forgave us through Christ, and in response, we’re called to forgive others and live a life of love (Ephesians 4:32-5:2). This isn’t just about being kind and compassionate; it’s about surrendering our lives as a fragrant offering to God. The words “gave himself up,” “offering,” and “sacrifice” are a stark reminder that following Jesus requires more than we can humanly give.
Counting the Cost
To live like Jesus, we must acknowledge the cost of discipleship and continually ask God to empower us to love selflessly. This kind of life is not about our own strength or abilities, but about surrendering to God’s power. As we do, our lives become a sweet fragrance to Him, a perfume that wafts into His presence.
The Struggle with Self-Reliance
Yet, we often struggle with self-reliance and self-satisfaction, even in our good works. We must confess that our efforts, no matter how noble, can be tainted by our own pride and ego. Thankfully, God is gracious to transform our gifts into sweet-smelling sacrifices when we offer them in repentance.
A Prayer for Transformation
Father God, I long to be a perfume to You, but I admit that my good works are often marred by self-reliance and self-satisfaction. Thank You for transforming my gifts into sweet-smelling sacrifices as I offer them in repentance. May my life be a fragrant offering to You, a reflection of Your selfless love.
