The True Meaning of Hosanna
As we embark on the Easter journey, a poignant phrase echoes through the ages: “Hosanna to the Son of David!” But what does it truly mean? In its original Rabbinical Hebrew, “Hosanna” is interpreted as “save, we pray.” This ancient cry for salvation takes on a profound significance when we reflect on the Easter story.
A Joyous Procession
As Jesus entered Jerusalem, a massive crowd gathered to pay homage. They spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees, creating a vibrant carpet of celebration. The air was electric with anticipation as the crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted in unison, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (Matthew 21:8-9)
Remembering the Reason
As we revel in the joy and adoration of Easter, let us not forget the underlying purpose of our celebration: the resurrection. Our salvation hinges on this pivotal event. It is the cornerstone of our faith, the reason we can proclaim “Hosanna” with confidence.
A Prayer for You
This Easter season, may we remember to express our praise, adoration, and joy, but also to reflect on the “why” behind our celebration. May we be touched by the Risen Lord, and may our hearts be filled with gratitude for the salvation that is ours through Him.
