The Power of Unity in Prayer
When crisis strikes, our natural instinct is to reach out to others for prayer support. And rightly so, as the Scriptures encourage us to pray for one another. However, in our desperation, we can easily fall prey to a subtle lie that undermines the power of our prayers.
The Lie That Holds Us Back
The enemy whispers, “Your prayers aren’t powerful enough.” This deceitful thought can lead us to believe that we need someone with a “better connection to God” to intervene on our behalf. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. Each of us has the ultimate intercessors working in our favor: Jesus, who intercedes on our behalf to the Father (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25), and the Holy Spirit, who intercedes on our behalf to the Father (Romans 8:26-27).
The Beauty of the Trinity
The Trinity is a mystery that reveals the beauty of God’s nature. Jesus, the Son, prays to the Father, while the Holy Spirit prays with understanding of our weaknesses and perfect knowledge of God’s will. Our role in intercession is to align ourselves with the prayers of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who are already working on our behalf.
More Than Just Intercessors
The Trinity is not just a team of intercessors; they are Persons to be known, cherished, adored, and worshiped. In their perfect unity, we see a reflection of the relationship we can have with God. From the beginning, God said, “Let us make man in our image” (Genesis 1:26), revealing the fullness of God present in our creation.
Knowing the Unknowable
While we cannot fully comprehend the Triune God, we can know Him. As John Wesley said, “Bring me a worm that can comprehend a man, and I will show you a man that can comprehend the Triune God.” The Scriptures offer a wealth of insight into the nature of God, and it’s up to us to seek Him out.
A New Perspective
What if we saw our situations through the lens of the Trinity? What if we recognized that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, in their uniqueness and unity, are available for us to lean into and draw on? Would it make a difference in our lives?
A Prayer of Unity
Triune God, I want to seek You and find You in all things. I want to be with You, listen to You, and get in sync with Your heartbeat. Father in me, Jesus in me, Holy Spirit in me, let me live with Your reality very near, filling my spirit. Amen.
