A Hunger That Cannot Be Satisfied
In the still of the night, when darkness reigns and sleep eludes me, a gnawing hunger creeps into my soul. It’s not a craving for sustenance, nor a longing for fleeting pleasures. This hunger is different – it’s a yearning for something more, something profound.
The Unrelenting Soul
At social gatherings, surrounded by laughter and conversation, this hunger whispers in my ear. In quiet moments, when I’m alone with my thoughts, it beckons me. Even amidst the hustle and bustle of crowded spaces, it lingers, refusing to be silenced. This hunger is a constant companion, one that cannot be satiated by the finest culinary delights.
A Different Kind of Hunger
In our modern world, we often view hunger as an enemy to be vanquished. We toil tirelessly to eradicate it, pouring resources into feeding the hungry and alleviating suffering. And yet, Jesus’ words pierce through the din: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.” In the Aramaic language, “blessed” doesn’t simply mean happy; it signifies being on the right path.
A Sign of Being on the Right Road
Could it be that this unrelenting soul hunger, this deep longing for spiritual fulfillment, is a sign that I’m on the right road? Is God whispering to me, “Yes, I want you to always hunger for more of Me. I desire for you to sink deeper into my nature, to ask questions, to weep tears, to probe my word”?
The Paradox of Hunger and Satisfaction
Father, I confess that I often crave instant gratification, wanting all my hunger satisfied in an instant. But then I would never know the joy of your continual feeding, the satisfaction of being filled and filled and filled. Thank you for this paradox, where hunger and satisfaction coexist in perfect harmony.
Embracing the Hunger
In this 21st-century world, where we’re bombarded with messages of instant fulfillment, I choose to embrace this hunger. I’ll let it drive me deeper into your nature, God, and trust that you will always provide. For in this hunger, I find myself on the right road, blessed and filled, yet still yearning for more of you.
