Finding Peace in the Eye of the Storm
Trusting in God’s Goodness
The apostle Paul’s words in Romans 8:28 have been a beacon of hope for centuries: “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Written around 10 years before his martyrdom, these words were penned at a pivotal moment in Paul’s ministry, when he sought to encourage fellow believers in their faith.
A Life of Trials and Triumphs
Paul’s own life was a testament to the power of trusting in God’s goodness. Despite facing numerous challenges, including imprisonment and persecution, he remained steadfast in his faith. Even in the darkest of times, such as during his harrowing two-week ordeal at sea, where neither sun nor stars appeared, Paul clung to his conviction that God was working for his good.
The Source of Unshakeable Peace
So, how did Paul find peace in the midst of turmoil? The answer lies in his deep understanding of God’s character. He knew that God was good, trustworthy, and loving, with an everlasting love that transcended human comprehension. This knowledge allowed Paul to experience a peace that went beyond human understanding, a peace that guarded his heart and mind.
Learning to Trust
The truth is, we don’t know what the future holds, just like Paul didn’t know how bad things would get. But we can learn from his example. By cultivating trust in God during life’s easier moments, we can develop a habit of faith that will sustain us through life’s storms. As we learn to trust God’s goodness, we can find peace, even in the most turbulent of times.
A Prayer for Trust
Father, help me to trust you in the good times, so that such trust becomes a deeply ingrained habit for the difficult days ahead.
