Embracing the Gift of Life
As we journey through life, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget to appreciate the beauty and wonder that surrounds us. But what if we made a conscious effort to celebrate life itself, rather than just waiting for special occasions?
A Personal Reflection
For me, birthdays hold a special significance. Twenty years ago, my wife Beverley faced a daunting battle with cancer, and her survival was far from certain. But thanks to excellent medical care, unwavering prayer, and the grace of God, she’s still with us today. Her twentieth cancer-free birthday was a milestone we couldn’t wait to celebrate. I wanted to make it a day to remember, so I surprised her with a ride in a vintage 1931 bi-plane. As we soared through the skies, performing lazy eights and gentle acrobatics, I was struck by the sheer joy of being alive.
The Power of Gratitude
As we touched back down on solid ground, I couldn’t help but reflect on the countless blessings we’ve received. Every day is a gift, a chance to start anew and make the most of the time we’ve been given. The Bible reminds us of the importance of celebration, mentioning it no less than 57 times. So why wait for a special occasion to express our gratitude? We can choose to celebrate life itself, in all its beauty and complexity.
Finding Joy in the Everyday
As you go about your week, remember that you don’t need a reason to celebrate. Take a moment to appreciate the little things: a beautiful sunrise, a good cup of coffee, a kind word from a stranger. These may seem like small pleasures, but they’re what make life rich and meaningful. So let’s make a conscious effort to celebrate life, to find joy in the everyday moments, and to express our gratitude for the gift of another day.
