Unshakeable Peace in Uncertain Times
As we navigate life’s trials and tribulations, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious. But what if we could experience a sense of peace that surpasses understanding, a peace that isn’t fragile or fleeting? According to Jesus, this kind of peace is not only possible but also a gift He longs to give us. “I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27).
A Widow’s Faith
One remarkable example of this kind of peace is seen in the story of a widow who stood beside her husband’s coffin. Despite her grief, she declared, “There lies my only earthly support, my most faithful human friend, one who has never failed me; but I must not forget there lies also the will of God, and that will is perfect love.” Her faith in God’s goodness and sovereignty gave her an unshakeable peace, even in the midst of sorrow.
The Source of Peace
So, how can we experience this kind of peace? The answer lies in understanding its source. As the Prince of Peace, Jesus offers a supernatural peace that far exceeds even the most coveted gifts, such as good health. This peace is not just a feeling but a fruit of the Spirit, cultivated in our lives moment by moment, day by day, as we yield to Him and are controlled by the Holy Spirit.
Cultivating Peace
To experience this kind of peace, we must deliberately choose to cooperate with God’s Holy Spirit. We can do this by focusing our thoughts on Him, knowing that “as he thinketh in his heart so is he” (Proverbs 23:7, KJV). When we prioritize God in our lives, His perfect peace will reign in our hearts.
A Daily Choice
While God’s peace is a gift, it’s equally true that we can choose to cultivate it in our lives. Today, take a moment to claim God’s promised peace for yourself. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you concentrate your heart’s gaze on the Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. And don’t forget to encourage someone else to do the same.
Today’s Action Point
By faith, claim God’s promised peace for today and every day. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you focus on the Lord Jesus Christ, and encourage someone else to do the same.
Further Reflection
Take a few minutes to read Isaiah 26:1-5 and reflect on God’s promises of peace. How can you apply these principles to your life today?
