Cultivating a Life of Confidence and Purpose
Rooted in Faith
The Bible paints a stunning picture of a life lived with confidence and purpose in Jeremiah 17:7-8. A tree planted by the water, with roots that dig deep, remains unwavering in the face of heat and drought. Its leaves stay green, and it continues to bear fruit, even when the world around it is withering away. This scripture offers a powerful recipe for living a life that is truly “green” – one that is marked by confidence, joy, and productivity.
The Foundation of Confidence
The first step in living this kind of life is to place our confidence in the Lord. When we focus on who God is and the promises He has made, our trust in Him grows. We find peace and joy, even in the midst of challenging circumstances. By wrapping our identity securely in Him, we can draw on His strength and refreshment, even when the world around us seems to be drying up.
The Consequences of Losing Confidence
But what happens when we shift our focus away from God and onto the difficulties around us? We begin to feel overwhelmed and worn out, and our confidence starts to slip away. When we give away our confidence, we also give away our joy, and with it, our strength. This can lead to a life that feels purposeless and unproductive.
The Joy of the Lord
Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us that “the joy of the Lord is your strength.” When we allow our joy to fade, we also give away our strength, and ultimately, our purpose. To remain fruitful and productive, we must stay connected to the source of our strength – God Himself.
Staying Focused
So how do we cultivate a life that is “always green”? It’s simple, yet not always easy. We must keep our eyes fixed on God and all that He is, as well as who we are in Him. When we do, we will find our confidence, joy, and strength. In turn, we will be able to walk purposefully, even in the most challenging times.
A Prayer for Guidance
Dear Lord, help me to keep my eyes fixed on Your greatness and on who I am in Your strength. Keep me green, I pray, and guide me on the path of confidence and purpose. Amen.
