Empowering Spiritual Leaders through Prayer
Thousands of Christian leaders abandon their ministries every year, exhausted, discouraged, and feeling isolated. This shouldn’t be the case. With the fervent intercession of their people, they could achieve so much more for the kingdom.
The Power of Intercession
Spiritual leaders should be our top priority when it comes to prayer. Without it, they can only accomplish what they can do in their own strength, which is limited. But with prayer, God can do the impossible. Each leader needs a dedicated team of trained, seasoned intercessors who will lift up their needs daily.
Lessons from Scripture
In the Bible, we see examples of leaders who understood the importance of having a support-base of prayer warriors. Moses had Aaron and Hur to hold up his hands in battle, while David surrounded himself with mighty men who were faithful to guard him, defend him, and win battles for him. These men were covenantally committed to their leader and were brave, fearless, and faithful.
The Brave and Victorious Actions of David’s Mighty Men
Study the exploits of David’s mighty men in 2 Samuel 23:8-39 and 1 Chronicles 11:10-12:40. They were experienced soldiers, helpers in war, and strengthened themselves in the Lord with David. They lived and fought in close fellowship with him, united in purpose and undivided in loyalty.
Your Role in Supporting Spiritual Leaders
As a member of the body of Christ, you are called to be a mighty person of prayer for your spiritual leaders. Pray that they will lead your fellowship of believers to have a sense of the possibility of God. Pray that they will be an example of how to seek God, follow the Holy Spirit, and challenge you with the Word.
Praying for Spiritual Leadership
Pray diligently that your spiritual leadership will:
- Seek God and love Him
- Follow the Holy Spirit and demonstrate His power
- Challenge you with the Word and equip you to apply it
- Release you to serve in the power of the Holy Spirit
The Result of Empowered Spiritual Leadership
When spiritual leaders are empowered through prayer, they can lead their fellowships to live in the vitality of the anointing of the Spirit. They can preach the Good News, proclaim freedom for prisoners, and release the oppressed. They can do the work of Jesus in the world, bringing hope and light to those who need it most.
