Letting Go of Control: Embracing God’s Sovereignty

Embracing Surrender: Letting Go and Letting God

As I strolled through my neighborhood one morning, I chanced upon a heartwarming scene that would later become a powerful reminder of faith. A young boy was pulling a wagon, with his smaller sibling and a stack of newspapers in tow. The duo would stop at each house, where the older boy would instruct the younger one to deliver a paper to the doorstep. Occasionally, the little one would try to dash to the next house, but his brother would gently guide him back to the wagon.

The Struggle for Control

This ordinary moment stuck with me, and recently, it resurfaced in my mind. I realized that we often find ourselves in a similar situation, where we’re like the little boy in the wagon, and God is the one pulling the strings. We must learn to surrender and let go, allowing God to take control.

The Helper’s Dilemma

As someone whose name is derived from Alexander, meaning “Helper of Mankind,” I’ve come to understand that helpers often struggle with surrender. We want to take charge and do it all ourselves. However, there are times when we need to step back and let God take the reins. When we’re “in” the wagon, we’re being led by God; when we’re “on” the wagon, we’re driven by our own agendas.

A Prayer for Discernment

My prayer for us this week is inspired by Solomon’s humble request in 1 Kings 3:7-9: “Father God, just as Solomon was, we too are like little children and do not know how to carry out our duties…. give your servants discerning hearts… to distinguish between right and wrong. In Jesus Name, amen.” May we seek wisdom and guidance, acknowledging our limitations and trusting in God’s sovereignty.

Surrendering to God’s Plan

As we navigate life’s challenges, let us remember the lesson of the wagon. May we learn to surrender our will and let God guide us, even when it’s difficult to relinquish control. By doing so, we’ll discover a deeper sense of trust and peace, knowing that we’re not alone in our journey.
