The Gentle Knock on the Heart’s Door
A childhood memory still resonates with me – a painting of Jesus standing outside a large wooden door, surrounded by lush green vines, with his hand raised as if ready to knock. What struck me was the absence of a handle on the outside of the door, implying that it could only be opened from within. The artwork conveyed a powerful message: Jesus waits patiently outside our lives, ready to enter when we invite him in.
A Gentle Warning
This morning, I stumbled upon a poignant phrase that resonated deeply: “I bless thee for that knocking at my heart’s door that warns me of thy waiting presence.” It made me ponder – how often does Jesus gently knock on the door of my heart, alerting me to his presence? Not a warning of impending danger, but a gentle nudge, reminding me that he’s ready to offer guidance or send a special message of love.
Tuning In to the Gentle Knock
In today’s world, we’re more accustomed to the loud ring of a doorbell than a gentle knock. Doorbells can be intrusive, while knocks can easily be ignored. I must listen carefully for the soft knocks on the door of my heart, lest I miss his presence. Jesus, I thank you for consistently knocking at the door of my life. Help me attune my ears to hear even the faintest whisper of your message.
A Heart Open to God’s Voice
In a world filled with noise, it’s essential to create space to listen to God’s gentle voice. I want to eagerly watch for how God answers my prayers, and I pray that you do too. May we learn to recognize the gentle knocks on our heart’s door, and may our ears be open to the whispers of God’s love.
