The Power of Sacrificial Praise
In the midst of life’s challenges, it’s easy to get caught up in complaining and negativity. But what if we chose to take a different path? What if we decided to offer God a sacrifice of praise, even when it feels like the last thing we want to do?
Choosing Contentment
As Hebrews 13:15 reminds us, true praise is not just a feeling, but a choice. It’s a decision to accept our circumstances, trusting that God has a reason for them. When we choose to praise God despite our struggles, we demonstrate our trust in His sovereignty. This kind of praise is a sacrifice, because it requires us to let go of our desire to control and manipulate our circumstances.
Forgiveness: The Path to Freedom
But praise is not just about accepting our circumstances; it’s also about releasing past hurts. James 3:10 reminds us that out of the same mouth come both praise and cursing. When we choose to forgive, we release the hold that past hurts have on us, and we open ourselves up to the freedom of God’s love. As Matthew 5:23-24 encourages us, we must prioritize reconciliation and forgiveness before we can truly offer our praise to God.
Gratitude in Abundance
When we choose to be grateful for what God has given us, we open ourselves up to a deeper sense of contentment. Psalm 104:28b reminds us that when God opens His hand, we are satisfied with good things. True praise comes from a heart that is grateful for all that God has provided, and trusts in His goodness.
Laying Down Our Rights
Ultimately, praising God requires us to sacrifice our right to hold grudges, to choose our own paths, and to demand what we want. We must lay down our wants, desires, and hurts on the altar, and choose to trust in God’s sovereignty. As we do, we will find that our praise is not just a feeling, but a choice that transforms our lives.
A Prayer of Gratitude
Lord, help me to be grateful for what you have given me. I praise you, Lord, because you give me good things. Amen.
