A Shift in Focus
As I stood in the sweltering heat, scrubbing the garage walls and floor, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was all worth it. We were hosting a barbecue, and I wanted everything to be perfect. But as I worked tirelessly, I began to lose sight of the purpose behind my labor.
A Timely Reminder
Then, two verses echoed in my mind: “Whatever you do, do it as unto me” and “Whatever you have done unto the least of these, my brethren, you have done it unto me.” In that moment, I realized that Christ was my ultimate guest, and that every effort I made was an act of service to Him.
A Change of Heart
With this newfound perspective, my motivation surged. I set the tables with renewed care, ensuring each detail was perfect. I greeted our guests with enthusiasm, knowing that Christ was present in each of them. It was no longer about impressing others, but about serving the Lord.
The Attitude of Christ
Jesus taught us that He came to serve, not to be served. As His followers, we’re called to emulate this attitude. Yet, I often forget, growing tired and self-centered. Lord, forgive me for losing sight of Your presence in my daily tasks. Burn into my heart the understanding that every job, no matter how mundane, is an opportunity to serve You.
A Newfound Purpose
As I reflect on that sweltering summer day, I’m reminded that perspective is everything. When we focus on serving Christ, even the most tedious tasks become acts of worship. May we strive to maintain this mindset, recognizing that our daily efforts are a testament to our love for Him.
