The Illusion of Freedom
Growing up, I thought I was free – a true pioneer at heart, with a solid grasp of God’s grace. I believed that no matter how much I compromised, God would always forgive me because of His kindness and mercy. I had learned about the high cost of grace, but I also thought it was freely available to me. I wasn’t taking God’s love for granted, or so I told myself. My actions, however, told a different story.
The Reality of Slavery
But Jesus had a different perspective. In John 8:34, He told the Jews, “Everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.” These Jews thought they were free, having never been enslaved to anyone. Yet, Jesus revealed that their sin had taken control of them. And I was no different. I was trapped in a cycle of sin, false repentance, and sin again. It took decades of struggle for me to finally reach my breaking point and cry out to God for true freedom.
The Power of Surrender
And then, something miraculous happened. God set me free! He always answers prayers like that. I realized that I wasn’t free at all; I was a slave to my own sin. But when I surrendered to God, He broke the chains that bound me. Now, I walk in freedom that will never end.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Heavenly Father, thank you for never giving up on me! Thank you for setting this enslaved sinner free when I finally surrendered and called on you. Thank you that I now walk in freedom that will never end. Amen.
