Breaking Free from Self-Destruction
I’ve walked the treacherous path of self-destruction, where the enemy’s lies convinced me that numbing the pain was easier than facing my weaknesses. Promiscuity and alcoholism became my escape routes, but they only led to more brokenness.
The Enemy Within
Winston Churchill’s wise words echo in my mind: “When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.” Yet, I was oblivious to the fact that the men I chased and the liquor I consumed were the real enemies, masquerading as false satisfaction and fractured purpose.
A Glimmer of Hope
But then, an unexpected force gently pushed open a door, revealing the truth of the Holy Spirit. The lies I believed – that sex equals love and acceptance, and alcohol is a suitable sedative – were shattered. A profound shift occurred in my heart and mind. I realized I needed Jesus as my Savior, but I also needed the Holy Spirit’s guidance to heal and find wholeness.
The Promise of Guidance
Today’s verses are not mere wishes; they are Jesus’ promises to us, guaranteeing a beautiful existence. Despite the discouragement that comes our way, the promise of the Holy Spirit’s leadership should fill us with joy and peace. He will show us the way, and we must heed his promptings to make Him known to others.
A Life of Direction and Power
Lord Jesus, I thank you for your words from the book of John and for the promise of your Holy Spirit that resides in me. Without His direction and power, I would be lost. May I always be ready to live out the guidance your Holy Spirit provides for my life. I thank you and praise you, Jesus, and it’s in your name I pray. Amen.
