Breaking Free from a Distorted View of God
Have you ever struggled to believe in a loving God because of a painful past experience? Perhaps, like Roger, you had an earthly father who was far from loving, and it’s hard for you to separate that image from the one of your Heavenly Father.
Roger’s story is not unique. Many people have grown up with fathers who were absent, abusive, or unloving, leading to a distorted view of God. But there is hope for healing and transformation.
Discovering the True Attributes of God
When Roger shared his struggles during a Bible study, he was given a special assignment: to make a list of all the attributes and qualities of God recorded in the Bible. This project took several months, but it was a turning point in his life.
As Roger saturated his mind with the attributes of God – His love, sovereignty, wisdom, grace, compassion, power, and holiness – the Holy Spirit began to heal his deep wounds. The memories that once weighed him down began to fade, replaced by a newfound trust in a loving God.
A Journey of Healing and Transformation
If you, like Roger, struggle to believe in a loving God due to past experiences, take heart. You can embark on a similar journey of healing and transformation. Start by meditating on the attributes of God. Read passages like 1 John 3:1-3, which reminds us of God’s love and faithfulness.
As you focus on God’s character, the Holy Spirit will begin to cleanse your mind of painful memories and replace them with a deep trust in His goodness. You’ll be able to say, like Roger, “I can trust God for anything, because I know He is a loving God who cares for me.”
Reflection and Application
Take time today to reflect on the attributes of God. Ask yourself:
- What are some painful memories that have shaped my view of God?
- How can I begin to see God in a new light, as a loving Father who cares for me?
- What steps can I take to meditate on God’s attributes and allow the Holy Spirit to heal my wounds?
As you journey towards healing and transformation, remember that God is thinking about you, and He will take care of you. Trust in His goodness and faithfulness, and you’ll experience a supernatural life for His glory.
