Faith in the Workplace: Sharing the Gospel with Coworkers
As Christians, we are called to be ambassadors of Christ in every aspect of our lives, including our workplaces. But how can we effectively share the gospel with our coworkers? Happy Khambule, a cardiac perfusionist in Dubai, shares her experiences and insights on how to joyfully spread the word of God in a multicultural and often challenging work environment.
A Calling to Share the Gospel
Khambule reminds us that as disciples of Christ, we are called to grow and multiply, just like the talents given to the servants in Jesus’ parable (Matthew 25:14-30). Every time we hear the Word of God preached in our local church, we are given a “coin” or a talent that God calls us to multiply according to our ability. We are responsible and accountable to God for what He has given us.
Equipped for Witness
Khambule credits her church congregation for equipping her for witness in various spheres of life outside of the church. Through pastors and elders who regularly preach and teach God’s Word, and through lay men and women who model that Word, she has learned to understand and apply it in her Christian walk. This equipping has enabled her to share the gospel with her coworkers in a natural and loving way.
The Power of Love and Words
Khambule emphasizes the importance of combining love and words in sharing the gospel. She quotes the apostle Paul, who wrote to the Thessalonians, “We were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children” (1 Thessalonians 2:7-8). By showing love and care for others, we open doors to share more about our faith in Christ.
Practical Examples from the Medical Profession
As a perfusionist, Khambule has learned to reflect Christ in her work, even in high-pressure situations. She asks herself questions like, “How can I show the love of Christ to this patient and their family?” and “How can I pray for this patient and their healing?” By being intentional about her faith, she has been able to share the gospel with her coworkers and patients in a natural and non-threatening way.
Living as Representatives of Christ
Khambule reminds us that as Christians, we are not just employees or coworkers, but representatives of Christ. We are called to live and act in a way that reflects His character and love. By doing so, we draw others to Him and show His goodness to those around us.
Conclusion
Sharing the gospel in the workplace is not always easy, but it is a vital part of our calling as Christians. By being equipped for witness, combining love and words, and living as representatives of Christ, we can joyfully spread the word of God to our coworkers and those around us.
