Shattering the Lies of Pornography: 4 Myths Exposed

The Lie of Pornography

Pornography is a web of deceit, intricately woven with lies and half-truths. It promises satisfaction but delivers only emptiness. It claims to be a harmless indulgence but ultimately leads to shame and regret. The Bible warns us that sin will always find us out (Numbers 32:23), and pornography is no exception.

Myth #1: Pornography is Normal

We live in a world where sex is everywhere. Images and messages bombard us daily, making it seem like pornography is just a normal part of life. But is it really? The world may try to convince us that evil is good and good is evil (Isaiah 5:20), but God’s truth remains unchanged. Pornography is not normal; it’s a distortion of God’s beautiful design for human intimacy.

Myth #2: Pornography is Harmless

Some may argue that pornography is a victimless crime, but nothing could be further from the truth. The production and consumption of pornography perpetuate exploitation, trafficking, and abuse. It’s a modern-day slave trade, and we must not turn a blind eye. As Christians, we have a responsibility to stand against injustice and protect the vulnerable.

Myth #3: You Can Control Your Porn Use

Can you really control your sin? Jesus said that everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin (John 8:34). Pornography is a master manipulator, promising freedom but delivering only bondage. Don’t believe the lie that you can budget your porn use or indulge without consequences. Sin always has a price, and the cost is higher than you think.

Myth #4: God Just Wants You to Be Happy

This myth reduces God to a benevolent dictator who only cares about our happiness. But God is a morally serious person who desires our holiness and integrity. He created us for His glory, not just our own pleasure. The cross of Christ reminds us that God is willing to suffer with us and for us, but He will not tolerate sin.

Breaking Free

You are not stuck with pornography. God created you in His image, and He can recreate you as a person of integrity and purpose. Don’t repeat the past year; choose freedom in this new year. Your gracious Savior offers you a way out, but you must take the first step. Will you?
