**Finding Peace in a World of Strife**
As I reflect on the chaos that surrounds us, I’m reminded of the timeless wisdom found in Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything that I need. He lets me rest in green pastures. He leads me to calm water.” These words paint a picture of serenity, of trust, and of surrender.
But let’s be honest, this isn’t the reality we often experience. Instead, we’re bombarded with messages that tell us to look out for number one, to climb the corporate ladder, and to be the best. We see it in our children’s playgrounds, in our workplaces, and even in our places of worship. It’s a never-ending cycle of competition, criticism, and division.
I recall a story about a group of seniors in a nursing home, vying for position at the dinner table and in front of the TV. It’s a stark reminder that this drive for dominance can follow us throughout our lives, leaving us exhausted and anxious.
But what if we could break free from this cycle? What if we could find a sense of peace and rest in the midst of the chaos?
Phillip Keller, a seasoned shepherd, offers a fascinating insight into the world of sheep. He writes about the “butting order” that exists among them, where one dominant ewe rules the flock through fear and intimidation. But when the shepherd enters the scene, everything changes. The sheep calm down, relax, and begin to graze peacefully.
This got me thinking: if Christ is our Good Shepherd, and His presence brings peace and unity, then what does it say about our lives when we’re consumed by strife and competition? Are we not yielding to His control?
As I pray for unity and peace in our communities, I’m reminded of the power of surrender. When we let go of our need to control and dominate, we create space for Christ to work in and through us. We become like sheep, grazing peacefully in His presence.
**A Prayer for Unity**
Lord Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd. We pray for Your people today, that You would bring Your Presence into our midst. We pray for unity in Your flock, that we would lay down our need to compete and criticize. Help us to rest in Your green pastures and drink from Your calm waters. In Your precious name, amen.
