**Free to Forgive**

**Unshackling the Weight of Resentment**

Do you remember the carefree days of childhood, when a scraped knee or a broken toy could be forgiven with a simple hug and a Band-Aid? As adults, however, we often find ourselves entangled in a web of resentment, clinging to past hurts like a lifeline. We crave justice, restitution, and revenge, and forgiveness seems like an impossible feat.

But what if we could break free from this cycle of bitterness? What if we could learn to forgive like God forgives us?

The Bible reminds us that God is a merciful Father, who desires His children to show mercy to others (Luke 6:36). Jesus, the ultimate example of mercy, prayed for His tormentors as He hung on the cross, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). This radical act of forgiveness is not just a suggestion, but a command for those who follow Him.

So, how can we possibly forgive like God? The answer lies in grasping the enormity of what Christ accomplished on the cross. He took upon Himself the weight of our sin, and in doing so, bestowed upon us an unfathomable mercy. We, who deserved condemnation, received instead the gift of forgiveness and reconciliation with the Father.

As new creations in Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we have the capacity to let go of the wrongs done to us and extend mercy to others. We can choose to release the burden of resentment, just as God has released us from the burden of our sin.

**The Power of Forgiveness**

Forgiveness is not about forgetting the past or excusing the hurtful actions of others. It’s about choosing to release the hold they have on us, and instead, embracing the mercy that God has shown us.

**Breaking Free from Bitterness**

As we learn to forgive like God, we’ll discover a peace that surpasses understanding, a freedom from the weight of resentment, and a deeper intimacy with our Heavenly Father.

**The Choice is Ours**

Will we continue to cling to our hurt and anger, or will we choose to forgive, just as God has forgiven us? The power to forgive lies within us, empowered by the Holy Spirit. The question is, will we use it?
