Finding Strength in Life’s Interruptions: Trusting God in Times of Crisis

When Life Slams on the Brakes

Have you ever been suddenly stopped in your tracks? A door slams shut, a hand goes up, and a tragedy halts your path. Your breath disappears, your heart races, and you’re left dazed, wondering what just happened. I believe that God uses these dramatic interruptions to jolt us out of our complacency.

A Wake-Up Call

It’s like being t-boned from the side in an accident – we’re trapped, shaken, and helpless. Our emotions spill over, and we cry out in distress, “Why?” Does God hear our cries? Absolutely. Does He want us to turn to Him in times of need? Without a doubt. But do we always respond in faith? Unfortunately, no.

The Wrong Coping Mechanisms

Some people turn to destructive habits to cope with the shock – drugs, alcohol, food cravings, reckless adventures, or sex. Maybe you’ve tried one of these escape routes before. But eventually, you’ll hit rock bottom, realizing that you’ve only dug yourself deeper into trouble. It’s then that you’ll discover that Jesus is the rock that can support you.

Finding Strength in Weakness

I’ve learned to stop myself from sliding further down the slope of despair. As soon as I feel myself slipping, I look up and reach for God’s nail-scarred hand. I let go of my need to control and trust in His strength instead. Inevitably, when I surrender, the purpose and lessons become clearer. He carries me through the darkness, and I begin to see the light again.

A Heart of Gratitude

This year, I have many things to be thankful for – my books are selling well, I’ve received great reviews, and I’m excited about my upcoming projects. But most of all, I’m grateful for a God who cares enough to stand by me, even when I stumble and fall. I’m thankful for the times when He’s redirected my attention, guiding me into wisdom. And I’m thankful for the ultimate sacrifice He made to give me life.

Victory Through Jesus Christ

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57) May we remember to turn to Him in times of need, trusting in His goodness and love.
