United in Spirit
Have you ever observed a long-married couple who seem to be two peas in a pod? They’re so in tune with each other that they can finish each other’s sentences, predict each other’s menu choices, and even share a knowing smile when a familiar story is being told. Over time, they begin to mirror each other’s mannerisms and appearance. It’s as if their individual boundaries blur, and they become an inseparable unit.
The Power of Prayer
This phenomenon is reminiscent of James Houston’s wise words: “Prayer is keeping company with God, and we become like the One with whom we keep company.” What an invitation! To spend quality time with the One who desires a life-changing friendship with us through prayer. Jesus, while on earth, exemplified this concept by frequently communing with His Father. Luke records seven instances of Jesus’ prayers, from His baptism to His crucifixion.
A Deeper Connection
My heart’s desire, and I hope yours too, is to draw closer to God through His Word. I long for us to see Scripture not as a theological textbook, but as an opportunity to deepen our friendship with the Almighty. I envision us bursting into praise, searching our souls under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, sharing our vulnerabilities, and finding refuge in our Keeper. I yearn for us to cultivate a pure devotion to Jesus, just as He desires an intimate relationship with us.
A Call to Intimacy
God beckons us to surrender our hearts, to yield to His will, and to serve Him with unwavering commitment. Joshua’s declaration, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” serves as a powerful reminder of our need for personal resolve. We must seek God-given vision, ministry, and mission, all birthed in prayer and dependent on His guidance.
The Fruit of Intimacy
As we journey with God over the years, people will begin to notice a profound transformation within us. As we soak in His Word, allowing it to permeate our being, we’ll start to “finish God’s sentences.” We’ll smile knowingly in the midst of His unfolding story, confident that the outcome will be good. And others will observe, “They even look like each other” – a testament to the imprint of God’s character in our lives, marked by light, peace, joy, power, and truth.
