The Power of Forgiveness: A Gift from God
As a child, I was deeply moved by a film about the life of Jesus. Watching the crucifixion scene, I felt a sense of sorrow and guilt, realizing that my sins had contributed to Jesus’ suffering. This experience led me to confess my sins to God, ask for forgiveness, and invite Jesus into my heart. That moment marked the beginning of a lifelong relationship with Jesus, one that has brought me joy, comfort, and peace.
God’s Forgiveness: A Boundless Ocean
God’s forgiveness is like the ocean, vast and boundless. It doesn’t matter how big or small our sins may seem; God’s forgiveness covers them all equally. Whether we’ve committed “small” sins like gossip or worry, “medium-size” sins like losing our temper, or “large” sins like murder, God’s forgiveness is sufficient to cover them all.
A Personal Encounter with Forgiveness
I recall a visit to a woman on death row, who was struggling to find assurance of her salvation. As we talked, I used the analogy of holes in the sand, created by crabs, children, and machines. Just as the tide covers all these holes equally, God’s forgiveness covers all our sins equally. This realization brought her peace and reassurance, and she stepped into eternity with confidence in God’s acceptance.
Repentance: The Key to Forgiveness
While God’s forgiveness is boundless, we must repent of our sins to receive it. The Bible says, “If we confess our sins, [God] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). By trusting in Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf, we’ll never be held accountable for the guilt of our sin.
The Gospel: Good News for All
The gospel is simply the good news about Jesus. It’s the message of God’s love and forgiveness, available to all who repent and trust in Christ. As Christians, we’re called to share this good news with others, that they may experience the joy and peace that comes from knowing Jesus.
