Finding Joy in Evangelism

The Struggle with Evangelism: Finding a Fresh Perspective

Do you find evangelism daunting, awkward, or even frightening? You’re not alone. Many Christians struggle to share their faith with others, often due to fear of rejection, lack of confidence, or uncertainty about how to approach the conversation.

The Root of the Problem

We may think that our struggles with evangelism are due to a lack of techniques or resources, but the issue goes much deeper. Our relationship with God and our understanding of His character play a significant role in our willingness and ability to share the gospel with others. If we view God as a demanding taskmaster, we’re unlikely to be enthusiastic about evangelism. However, if we see Him as a loving and generous Father, we’ll be more eager to share His message with others.

Correcting Distorted Pictures of God

To overcome our struggles with evangelism, we need to correct our distorted pictures of God. We can do this by taking a fresh look at Jesus Christ, who reveals God’s true nature to us. Jesus shows us a God who is loving, kind, and self-giving, a God who delights in giving and sharing His life with us.

Warming Our Hearts

When we understand God’s true character, our hearts begin to warm towards Him. We start to see evangelism not as a duty or obligation, but as a privilege and a joy. We become eager to share the gospel with others, not because we have to, but because we want to.

Real, Fruitful, Healthy Evangelism

Real, fruitful, healthy evangelism begins with our delighting ourselves in God. Our hearts must be filled with the glory of God in Christ, and His beauty must awaken joy in us. When we’re satisfied in Christ, we’ll be the best missionaries, and our proclamation of Him will be fertilized by our joy.

You’re Not Alone

Remember, you’re not alone in your struggles with evangelism. Many Christians face similar challenges, but the good news is that there’s no secret to learn, no techniques to perfect, and no shame in confessing our need for a bigger, better, clearer sight of Jesus Christ.
