Resting in the Shepherd’s Care
God’s message about Sabbath rest is loud and clear: just as creation didn’t come crashing down when He rested, neither will it when we do. We all know that rest is essential. Without it, our bodies and minds would eventually burn out. Even the earth itself needs periodic breaks, as a field must lie fallow to bear fruit.
A Pasture for the Soul
In Psalm 23, David writes, “He makes me to lie down in green pastures.” This isn’t just a picturesque scene; it’s a declaration of trust in the Shepherd’s finished work. Jesus, our Shepherd, has created a sanctuary for our souls. With His own scarred hands, He has cleared the landscape of sin and planted seeds of grace and mercy.
The Satisfaction of Rest
Imagine the joy in the heart of the Shepherd when His sheep finally rest in the lush grass. Now, imagine the satisfaction in the heart of God when we do the same. It’s as if He’s saying, “Ah, my child, you’re finally resting in my provision.”
The Importance of Self-Care
We often neglect our own well-being, thinking that constant busyness is a badge of honor. But God’s design is for us to rest and recharge. By doing so, we acknowledge our limitations and trust in His infinite power. So, take a cue from creation and give yourself permission to slow down. Lie down in the green pastures of God’s grace, and let your soul be nourished.
