The Intimacy of God
Dan’s childhood was marked by a father who was emotionally absent, harsh, and unforgiving. Yet, as he grew older, he came to understand that his Heavenly Father was loving and kind. But when faced with a terminal illness, Dan struggled to surrender to God’s will. It’s natural to fear the unknown, especially when mortality looms large. After all, the will to live is strong, and physical death is a stark reminder of the curse of Eden.
The Struggle to Connect
So, why do some people face death with peace, joy, and even anticipation? Perhaps it’s because they’ve experienced a loving, earthly father figure who modeled God’s love. Dan, however, lacked that foundation, making it difficult for him to grasp the concept of a personal, loving God. It’s as if God seemed too distant, too big, for his scarred mind to comprehend.
A God Who Understands
But Jesus bridges that gap. He reminds us that if we’ve seen Him, we’ve seen the Father. This Jesus, who whispered gentle words to a broken-hearted Mary, who touched the untouchable leper, who gathered forgotten children to His side, and who endured unimaginable suffering, is the same God who longs for our trust and love. He’s not too big; He’s just the right size for our fragile hearts.
Embracing God’s Love
In Jesus, we see a God who understands our deepest fears and insecurities. He’s a God who invades our culture, touches our pain, and gathers us close. He’s a God who bleeds with us, who cries with us, and who loves us unconditionally. And it’s this God, this Jesus, who invites us to surrender our fears, our doubts, and our insecurities to His loving care.
