Finding Our Way Back to God’s Embracing Love
Today, countless individuals live in a state of exile, forced to flee their homes due to persecution, shame, or societal pressures. But there’s another, more profound kind of exile – spiritual exile. Many have distanced themselves from God, often due to feelings of shame, anger, or inadequacy.
The Root of Spiritual Exile
Perhaps we struggle to see God as a loving Father because our own fathers failed us. Maybe we believe we’re not good enough to pray to Him. As one wise professor once said, “People have poor self-images because they have an even poorer image of God.” We often underestimate the vastness and depth of His love.
A Misconception About God’s Presence
We’ve all seen the bumper sticker: “If God is not in your life, guess who moved?” The implication is clear – we’re the ones who moved away from God. But that’s not entirely true. While God cannot coexist with sin, He hasn’t abandoned us. He sent Jesus to take on our sins, freeing us from their grip. All we need to do is turn to Him with a sincere heart and ask for forgiveness.
The Path Back to God’s Arms
The story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32 serves as a powerful reminder of God’s unconditional love. Just as the father welcomed his wayward son back with open arms, God eagerly awaits our return. If you’re feeling disconnected from God right now, know that He’s waiting for you to come home.
A Prayer for Reconnection
Dear God, help me never shy away from your mercy and grace. Give me the courage to confess my sins, that I might once again bask in your presence and receive your blessings. I desperately need you in my life. Amen.
