When Life Spins Out of Control
Have you ever felt utterly helpless when someone makes a choice that you cannot control? I recently heard a powerful sermon by a well-known pastor, where he shared the heart-wrenching story of Eve losing her son to his brother’s violence. In that moment, I couldn’t help but wonder how I would react if I were in her shoes. Would I be able to extend forgiveness freely, despite the overwhelming circumstances?
The Struggle is Real
Let’s face it – we’ve all been there. We’ve all encountered situations that test our faith, push us to the limits, and leave us feeling like we’re drowning in a sea of uncertainty. I’ve had my fair share of such experiences, and I must admit, they’ve been some of the toughest challenges I’ve faced as a Christian.
Clinging to Jesus
In those moments of desperation, I’ve learned to cling to Jesus, pleading for the grace to forgive and move forward. It’s not always easy, but it’s a choice we must make if we want to maintain our sanity and keep our relationship with God intact.
The Biblical Mandate
The Bible is crystal clear on forgiveness. We’re called to forgive others just as God has forgiven us. It’s not a suggestion; it’s a commandment. We can’t cherry-pick which sins to forgive and which ones to hold onto. Forgiveness is a fundamental aspect of our walk with Christ.
Jesus’ Example
Take comfort in knowing that we’re not alone in this struggle. Jesus Himself had to deal with decisions that were out of His control, yet He chose to forgive. The sacrifice He made on the cross is a powerful reminder of God’s love for us. This same love that forgave us enables us to move on, knowing that in the end, God is able to redeem us through our acts of forgiveness.
A Prayer for Forgiveness
Lord, it’s only by Your grace that we’re able to forgive freely and walk in love when we’ve been sinned against. As we face challenges in this area, remind us of Your great love and sacrifice. Remind us of the grace You’ve bestowed upon us, by casting our sins into the sea of forgiveness. Help us to choose forgiveness daily. In Jesus’ name, amen.
