The Ultimate Christmas Gift: Unconditional Love

The Gift of Unconditional Love

As I reflect on the best Christmas presents I’ve ever received, I’m reminded of the joy and excitement that came with unwrapping something truly special. As a child, it was all about Strawberry Shortcake; later, gift cards became the ultimate thrill. But this year, I’ve been struck by a gift that transcends material possessions – a gift that speaks directly to the heart.

A Gift of Unparalleled Significance

The Bible reminds us, “Unto us a child is born. Unto us a son is given” (Isaiah 9:6). These simple yet profound words, echoed in Handel’s iconic song, “For unto us a Child is Born,” resonate deeply. Two nights ago, I had the privilege of experiencing the St. Louis Symphony and choir perform Messiah, and I was struck by Handel’s emphasis on those two little words: “Unto us.”

A Selfless Act of Love

When God the Father sent His son, He didn’t do so out of curiosity or boredom. Jesus wasn’t born to experience human life or indulge in earthly pleasures. He was sent as a gift to us – a gift that would bridge the gap between our sinful nature and God’s holiness. God knew we needed a mediator, a sacrifice sufficient to cover our sin and grant us access to heaven.

A Gift That Says “I Care”

The best gifts are those that demonstrate thoughtfulness and understanding. They say, “I’ve taken the time to get to know you, and I want to give you something that will bring you joy.” When God gave His Son, He was saying exactly that. He knew we needed Jesus to rescue us from ourselves and our sin.

A Love That Transcends Human Comprehension

God’s love for His Son and for humanity is unfathomable. He loved us so much that He gave His only Son (John 3:16). He knew that once we believed in Jesus, we would love Him too. God’s gift is not just a token of His love; it’s a reflection of His intimate understanding of our deepest needs.

A Gift That Changes Everything

While the world focuses on what they want for Christmas, we can pause to thank God for what He’s already given us. We can rejoice in the knowledge that God gave His Son, “Unto us.” As the Bible declares, “There is born to you this day in the city of David, a Savior” (Luke 2:11). Let us cherish this gift, and may it transform our lives forever.
