From Mediocrity to Victory
I’ve experienced a profound transformation – I’m no longer trapped under the oppressive reign of sin and death. What was once impossible – a deep, meaningful friendship with God – is now a reality I cherish. However, my heart often struggles to fully grasp this truth. I confess that I tend to view God as a backup plan, rather than my primary source of comfort and guidance.
The Safety Net Mentality
When all else fails, I turn to God. When I’m helpless, I pray. When I’ve exhausted all other options, I fall back on God. He becomes my safety net, my consolation prize. Prayer becomes a last resort, and living a vibrant, victorious life in Christ seems elusive. It’s no wonder my spiritual journey feels mediocre and mundane.
God: The Ultimate Prize
But God isn’t a consolation prize. He’s the ultimate treasure, our true hope, and our perfect peace. As long as we view God as a backup plan, we’ll never experience true freedom or victory. We’ll remain trapped in fear, doubt, and sin.
The Narrow Path to Victory
To know God, we must deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him. It’s in the midst of suffering, pain, and questioning that we find Him. We must cling to the promise of a life beyond this broken one, a far better life than we’ve ever known. It’s choosing the narrow, difficult path that leads to God’s grace, peace, and unfathomable joy.
The Choice Before Us
Jesus said, “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate… The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). We can travel the easy road, meeting death, or choose the difficult way, forcing us to keep our eyes on Him and find life.
Starting Your Journey Today
If you don’t know Jesus as your constant friend and prize, you can start living that way today. Begin with a simple prayer: “Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to you and ask you to come in as my Saviour and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be.”
