Embracing the Call to Surrender
As we stand at the crossroads of life, uncertain about the path ahead, we often seek answers to the question, “What’s next?” It’s a query that echoes through the corridors of our minds, weighing heavily on our hearts. For some, the response may come in the form of a loud, resounding voice, while for others, it may be a gentle whisper, barely audible, yet crystal clear.
A Personal Encounter
I recall my own journey, nestled in the final year of university, where the “now what?” syndrome had taken hold. My list of possibilities seemed endless: graduate school, seminary, teaching, student ministry, or perhaps a career as a naturalist. As I poured over the pros and cons, I sought to hold each option with an open hand, surrendering to God’s will, trusting in His love and plan for my life.
The Discernment Process
My search for direction involved seeking wisdom from friends, immersing myself in Scripture, and entreating God for guidance. The process was not about finding the perfect vocation, but rather about cultivating a deep, intimate relationship with my Creator. It was in a quiet prayer room, surrounded by stillness, that I posed the question, “God, is this what You want for me?” The response was unequivocal, resonating deep within my soul: “Yes.”
Beyond the Call
However, this affirmation was not merely a confirmation of a specific ministry assignment. It was an invitation to surrender to God’s love and plan, to embrace a life of daily surrender, and to nurture a moment-by-moment connection with Him. This relational bond is the foundation upon which direction is built. As we yield to His will, our understanding of who we were created to be grows, and His guidance becomes increasingly clear.
The Secret to Direction
Our vocational pursuits, whether in ministry or otherwise, are mere expressions of God’s presence within us. They are the overflow of His love, wisdom, and plan for our lives. As we present ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, we open ourselves to His transformative power. In this state of surrender, we can confidently declare, “Father, I surrender. I rest in Your perfect love, wisdom, and plan for my life.”
