Slaying Life’s Lions: Unleashing Your Inner Strength

Embracing Our Inner Strength: Conquering Life’s Challenges

As I drove my three-year-old to preschool, she shared a concern that had been weighing on her mind. “Mommy, Katie doesn’t think my muscles are big,” she said, her tiny voice laced with uncertainty. But as we talked through it, her expression changed, and she added, “Mommy, I can’t slay a big lion.” This sudden connection to the story of Samson, who famously killed a lion with his bare hands, caught me off guard.

Recognizing Our Capacities

It struck me that my daughter’s awareness of her strength was not just about physical prowess, but about the confidence that comes with it. As we navigated her concerns, I asked her, “Do you think you can slay a little lion?” Her response was immediate: “Sure, I can slay a little lion.” This exchange made me ponder the challenges we face in life – the lions that block our paths.

Growing in Strength and Confidence

I realized that God allows us to grow in our capacity and confidence to tackle these challenges. The biblical heroes we admire, like Samson and David, didn’t start with their most daunting feats. They began with smaller victories, which ultimately prepared them for the greater battles ahead. With every challenge we overcome, we build on our experience and face the next one with renewed strength and faith.

Reflecting on Our Journey

As we reflect on our own lives, it’s essential to ask ourselves:

  • What challenge am I facing right now?
  • What “little lions” have I conquered in my journey so far?
  • How does my past experience inspire me to face my current challenge?

Seeking Guidance and Strength

As we bring our struggles to God, we can pray with confidence: “Thank You, God, that You grow me in my capacity and strength to face the challenges of every day. I bring my lions to You right now and ask for the confidence and strength to conquer these new challenges. Remind me of what You have already brought me through successfully. Amen.”
