Overcoming Fear with Faith: Finding Inner Peace in God’s Love

Finding Inner Peace in the Midst of Fear

As Christians, we’re not immune to fear. In fact, many of us have experienced its debilitating grip. I know I have. Panic attacks, anxiety, and worry can be overwhelming. But what does it mean to “give way to fear”? Is it simply a natural response to life’s challenges, or is there a deeper issue at play?

The Progressive Nature of Fear

I believe fear is a progression of thoughts that we buy into, little by little, until we’re paralyzed emotionally. It’s a subtle yet insidious force that can creep into our minds and hearts, stealing our peace and confidence. But what’s the alternative? What’s the “right thing to do” in response to fear?

Choosing to Trust

For the Christian, the answer lies in our response to fear. We have a choice: we can give in to fear, or we can put our hope in God. We can choose to “dress” ourselves with humility, acknowledging our vulnerability, but also recognizing God’s love for us and His power to protect us.

The Beauty of Submission

Sarah, Abraham’s wife, is a shining example of this principle. Despite feeling unsafe at times, she refused to give way to fear. Instead, she submitted herself to God, trusting Him to keep her safe. This submission wasn’t just a passive act; it was an active choice to put her hope in God. And as a result, she radiated an inner beauty and peace that’s still inspiring us today.

Radiating Inner Beauty

This inner beauty isn’t limited to women, either. Anyone who puts their hope in God can experience this same peace and confidence. It’s a beauty that comes from within, a reflection of our trust in God’s goodness and power.

A Prayer for Courage

So the next time fear threatens to overwhelm you, remember: God is with you, and you can trust Him to keep you safe. Submit yourself to God, and put on humility. And as you do, pray this prayer with me: “Father God, thank you that I am safe in your care and that I do not have to give way to fear. Remind me how much you love me and how powerful you are whenever fear threatens to overwhelm me. Amen.”
