Surrendering to Salvation: Embracing Humility and Dependence on God

The Humbling Reality of Salvation

A turning point in my life occurred when I made a simple yet profound decision in a registrar’s office. As I signed my name on a piece of paper, I couldn’t help but think, “Is that all there is to it?” The same sentiment echoes in my mind when I reflect on salvation. It’s hard to accept that my role is minimal, that I don’t deserve it, and that I can’t earn it through my own efforts.

The Unfamiliar Posture of Utter Dependence

The reality is that salvation requires humility and surrender. I must acknowledge my need for a Savior, believe in Jesus, and place my faith in Him. It’s only through God’s sacrifice, dying in my place, that I can be saved. This realization is both liberating and humbling.

The Cross: A Constant Reminder

Whenever I’m tempted to rely on my own strength or try to live the Christian life on my own terms, I’m reminded of the cross. It’s a powerful symbol of God’s love and sacrifice. I didn’t have a role to play in my salvation then, and I don’t have one now. The cross serves as a constant reminder of my dependence on God.

A Heartfelt Prayer

Father in heaven, I thank You for the incredible gift of salvation. Forgive me for the times when I’ve tried to do things on my own. Teach my proud heart to look only to You, for it’s only You who saves me and gives my life purpose and meaning. There’s nothing I can add to what You’ve done. Thank You for loving me. May I reflect Your love in all I say and do today. Amen.
