Finding Comfort in the Midst of Tragedy
When tragedy strikes, our natural instinct is to question and seek answers. The pain of losing a loved one can be overwhelming, leaving us feeling helpless and uncertain. It’s only natural to wonder why such evil exists in the world.
The Dangers of Denial
Some people respond to evil by denying its existence altogether. However, this approach is not only unrealistic but also dangerous. As C.S. Lewis so aptly put it, “Whenever you find a man who says he does not believe in a real Right and Wrong, you will find the same man going back on this a moment later.” In reality, denying good and evil is a characteristic of sociopaths.
Removing God from the Equation
Others may try to cope with tragedy by removing God from the picture. But this approach is equally flawed. Without God, our world seems devoid of hope, leaving us with only pain and suffering. In contrast, having God in our lives provides ultimate hope and comfort during difficult times.
The Power of Hope
With God, we have a loving Father who remains with us, comforting us in our darkest moments. He is a God who understands our pain, having suffered and died for us on the cross. Our hope is grounded in His mighty power, limitless mercy, and everlasting love. As Romans 8:38-39 reminds us, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
A Love That Never Fades
No matter what life throws our way, God’s love for us remains constant. He is a God who loves us because He is love itself. And nothing – not even death or tragedy – can separate us from His love. In Him, our hope is never in vain.
