The Power of Surrender: Unleashing God’s Help

Many of us claim to believe in God, citing years of church attendance as proof. But what does it truly mean to believe? Is it merely intellectual assent or something more?

Beyond Intellectual Consent

Believing in God requires more than just acknowledging His existence. It demands surrender – a willingness to give ourselves completely to Him. This concept may seem daunting, but it’s a principle we practice daily in other areas of life.

Trusting in the Unknown

Think about flying. We board a plane, fasten our seatbelts, and entrust our lives to a pilot we’ve never met. We trust that they know what they’re doing and will deliver us safely to our destination. Similarly, when we undergo surgery, we sign a consent form, surrendering our bodies to the care of medical professionals. In both cases, we relinquish control, trusting in the expertise of others.

The Principle of Surrender

This principle holds true in many aspects of life. We must surrender before we can receive help. It’s no different with God. Before He can work in our lives, we must give ourselves to Him completely.

The Fear of Helplessness

As Christians, surrendering to God can be one of the most challenging things we face. We fear losing control, being helpless, and vulnerable. But God cannot work in our lives unless we surrender to Him. His way is always to work through weakness, not strength.

Debunking the Myth

We often think that surrendering to God will make us weak, spineless, and mindless. However, the opposite is true. When we surrender, we tap into God more fully, becoming more alive, realistic, courageous, and truly ourselves.

A Prayer of Surrender

Dear God, forgive me for my independence. I want to trust you more in every situation. I give myself to you now in full surrender. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
