The Elusive Pursuit of Peace
As we step into a new year, one thing is certain – peace is a universal longing. Whether it’s an end to global conflicts, resolution in our personal relationships, or a sense of calm in our daily lives, peace is the ultimate desire. But what does it truly mean to possess peace?
A Definition Worth Considering
George Morrison’s wise words come to mind: “Peace is the possession of adequate resources.” At first glance, this definition may seem simplistic, but consider its profound implications. Imagine driving on a long, deserted highway with limited gas stations. A full tank of gas brings a sense of security and peace, knowing you have the resources to reach your destination. But what happens when the tank runs dry? Anxiety sets in, and peace flees.
Forgetting Our Resources
This scenario parallels our lives. We often focus on our immediate needs and circumstances, forgetting the abundant resources available to us. We possess tried-and-true promises from a God who cannot lie (Titus 1:2). The nourishing food of God’s Word sits waiting on our shelves, designed to satisfy our deepest hunger (Matthew 4:4). We’re invited to cast our cares upon Him in prayer, knowing He cares deeply for us (1 Peter 5:7).
The Ultimate Source of Peace
But there’s more. As believers, we’ve been given the gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. This knowledge brings a profound sense of peace, knowing we’ll never face the wrath we deserve. God’s Son bore it instead. This is the ultimate source of peace – a peace that surpasses human understanding.
Do You Have These Resources?
If you’ve placed your faith in Jesus, then you possess this peace. Look no further. Jesus’ words echo through the ages: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27). May His peace be your anchor in the storms of life.
